It was a dark time in human history.
Strands of copper lie about, strangling our world in a knotted mess of unmanageable electrical conductivity. Short circuits and the invevitable threat of fire was ever-present, a sad byproduct of an era of automotive chaos as we were forced to tape bundles of wires together, leaving a gooey mess for the next unsuspecting soul who had the unfortunate task of troubleshooting our work. Re-wiring project cars was a hellish nightmare attempted only by caped superheroes wielding razor blades and a test light.
But then, a beam of shining bright light appeared on the horizon! On July 6, 1921 a prophet was born and given the name Maurus C. Logan. Maurus was destined to save our world and 37 years later he saved it indeed. In 1958, the Thomas & Betts company, whom Maurus toiled under its employ, patented a revolution; T&B called it the Ty-Rap, a plastic tool, which Maurus invented to speed the installation of wiring bundles used in the construction of aeroplanes.
You may refer to Maurus' groundbreaking design as a “zip tie”. We call it the “the future”. As soon as industry embraced the Ty-Rap, workplace-related “incidents" declined. Mental health among automotive technicians, although not a hot topic at the time, improved dramatically.
The Ty-Rap was here to stay and would be copied for decades to come. Whether he knew it or not, Maurus changed the world by saving it from itself. Never again would messy wiring sabotage our hot rods and for that we salute Mr. Logan with the Zip Tie Origin shirt.
Every time we don this cuddly soft cloak of positivity we will show reverence for the man who freed us from automotive electrical chaos.
