I like to think of the videos I’ve made as a diary for my kids. Long after I’m gone, they can sit down anytime they want and go on an adventure with me whether its inside of the garage they grew up in, or in a ’69 Ford Ranchero weaving its way through Canada via the Alkan highway on its way to Alaska. Finnegan Speed and Marine apparel is an extension of that idea.
A lot of times my friends and I will create a shirt design simply to commemorate a moment in time that makes us smile. This is one of those moments.
David Freiburger gave Stubby Bob to me in February 2026. The old 454 was destroyed. The carbs were junk, a pushrod was bent and the crankshaft was broke in half. I had to do something about it so I stole the supercharged 540ci Big-Block Chevy out of the Rubber Duck Firebird and had Harrell Engine and Dyno rebuild it. Then we hauled the engine and Bob to the Mickey Thompson Turn and Burn event.
We swapped engines right there in the pit and before the event was over, Bob once again roared to life, zoomies shaking and high-fives slapped round as the crowd of onlookers cheered. It was a stellar moment that was punctuated by a massive storm that crashed down onto the pit area just as fast as the blown Chevy idled. We barely picked up the tools, trash, and tables as we laughed our asses off before the rain filled the engine with moisture. Of course the trailer had a flat tire when it was time to leave, too, as if the day wasn’t memorable enough already.
If you weren’t there or simply want to relieve the feeling of seeing Bob cackle again with the Rubber Duck’s yellow valve covers, go watch this episode of Finnegan’s Garage while wearing this shirt. It’s a guaranteed feel good moment.
