Memory: It’s Day 1 of Drag Week and I may only get one pass. I staged the car, put the Hemi on the rev limiter and let go of the clutch pedal. Blasphemi hooked harder than ever and immediately drove the front end of the car up into the air.

At the top of First gear I passed the Christmas tree with the front tires three feet off the ground. Not wanting to potentially waste my one and only pass, I clicked the six-speed into Second gear and the big Hemi pushed Blasphemi even higher. The front end drove higher into the air.

I swear I saw God as the rear frame rails smashed the rubber-coated dragstrip and kept my Bel Air from flipping over backward. Sparks flew as I ran the engine to 8000 rpm and was forced to make a decision; go for Third gear and risk crashing into the wall of the track or lift and let car crash back to earth. I breathed off gas pedal just enough to set the front end down and finish off an epic 10 second pass.
