Once in a great while, opportunity comes knocking and if you’re ready for it, you can seize the chance to experience greatness. For some, the chance for greatness happens on the field of combat, of sport, or in the hallowed halls of academia. All too often, my opportunities present themselves as I sit perched atop my porcelain throne in the ol bathroom, scrolling online auctions looking for four-wheeled wonders on my iPhone. My record of pre-flush auction heroics is pretty impressive, if I do say so myself.

I once crushed the auction of a sweet 60,000 mile Toyota pickup in just three bids as the sun beamed through the window above my toilet. Another moment of greatness occurred when I scored a legit FBI Mobile Command Center from the comfort of my 1.6-gallon-per-flush human refuse receptacle.

That one required just two bids before she was mine, all mine. My most recent acquisition from the comfort of the “Tower of Power” is this stellar 1985 Nissan 720 ST model pickup, a low mileage and incredibly well-preserved time capsule from the heyday of mini-truckin coolness. My legs nearly fell asleep as I did battle with everyone else who wanted to experience the same adventure I did; driving a classic mini truck home from Alabama!

It took many minutes and lots of bids to capture greatness that day and it was totally worth the pins and needles feeling in my feet as I lept off the toilet seat and fell to the floor a winner!

This isn’t some stripper glitter zero option model mini. The ST or “Sport Truck” version of the 720 has it all; air conditioning, tilt wheel, power steering and brakes, center console with auxiliary gauge stack, bucket seats and because this is also a “King Cab” truck, there’s room for your associates in the back of the cab via two jump seats just large enough for vertically challenged adults.

Powered by a 103hp dual spark plug four cylinder carbureted engine and backed by a five-speed manual transmission, she’s not winning any drag races but that doesn’t matter. Those low-profile tires, Fuchs Porsche alloy wheels and dropped stance were taylormade for cruising and not rushing to the next stoplight.

She’s well appointed, stylish, and incredibly well-preserved. From the vintage car phone to the steel bed that looks like its never hauled anything but ass,  I love this truck for its luxurious appointments but also because it has just enough tasteful mods to teleport you back to a time when daily driving a lowered mini-truck was a choice and not merely a necessity.
